Product Preach – Jeffree Star Liquid Lipsticks. SEND NUDES (Collection)

Beauty

I have a strange relationship with lipsticks. They are the thing I collect the most and probably wear the least. In both my fashion style as well as the makeup I wear, one thing that is always pretty much top of my priorities is comfort!  This obsession with my lips still feeling moisturised and effortlessly bare means that I do spend the majority of my existence in Vaseline, Carmex and Nivea Lip butter. Despite owning a full drawer of lip glosses, sticks, paints and stains – you name it, I probably have it, and don’t wear it. That unhealthy ‘buy but rarely wear’ relationship changed drastically when I discovered Jeffree Star and his glorious matte liquid lips.

They are as easy wearing as you can get with a matte lip; there really must be something rather magical about that formula for me to put up with it on an every day basis! The one thing I would recommend, and this goes without saying for any matte formula, a lip scrub to exfoliate dead skin really does make all the difference for the final look, and it drastically improves how it wears throughout the day. One day I began to get lazy and just whacked it on and 2-3 hours in, the inner rim of the lips looks as unsightly as that phrase I just used (inner rim?!).

In terms of value for money, my colours of choice for my lips are always nudes, as I really only pull out a bright on very specialist occasions. If I’m wanting to make the most of cost per wear, it’s always got to be nude for me. So, my first Jeffree Star liquid lip was the beloved Mannequin; such a perfect, easy wearing nude for slightly paler humans – the definition of your lips but a whole lot better. I bought it, loved it, LOST IT and life was never the same. The little lipstick shaped hole in my life was heartbreaking, as I refused to repurchase it as I couldn’t let myself lose hope of finding the original tube of goodness! It hit around the one year anniversary of its disappearance and I felt the hole more than ever, but Jeffree himself answered my calls.

“AN ENTIRE MINI NUDES COLLECTION, INCLUDING MANNEQUIN, ASWELL AS 7 OTHER BEAUTIFULLY WEARABLE SHADES IN A MINI FORM SO THAT I’M NOT WASTING MONEY ON FULL TUBES THAT MY CARMEX LOVING LIPS WILL NEVER USE UP!”

Okay, those weren’t his exact words, but you get the point! It was a beautiful moment in my little life, and it could be the same for you too. These were the ‘exact words‘ provided by BeautyBay, the British online retailer I purchased from – they explained:

“Displayed in a large, matte box, The Mini Velour Liquid Lipstick Nudes Volume One is a collection of eight long-wearing nude lip colours. Drying completely matte, these opaque, lightweight lipsticks suit all occasions and skin tones and contain a popular, reformulated limited-edition Lip Ammunition shade.

I must be completely honest, this reformulated lip ammunition shade, Skin Tight, is too pale for me, and I can be the palest of the pale on my ‘darkest days’. I can make it work if I use a darker shade and then apply it only to the middle of my lips to create an ombre look, but it’s definitely not an easy wearer in the grand scheme of these nudes.

My original, first love that made me fall in love with this formula, I’ve bigged it up enough already but one more compliment – the definition of my skin tones perfect nude.

This shade is honestly a big part of why I’m so very pleased I bought this set. I was reluctant to buy it in the full tube whilst I was the owner of Mannequin aswell, I thought they just looked identical and there was no point. I’ve now discovered, sampling them both on myself, Celebrity Skin has a touch more of a deeper brown tone to it which I MIGHT (don’t tell Mannequin) like more than Mannequin! Well worth trialling both in mini form, as I will probably be repurchasing this shade in place of Mannequin in the full version… Or both, WHO KNOWS!

I have recently completed some colour specialist training with Jules Standish and the London College Of Style for work; I had my eyes widened by how significantly different your skin tone and overall complexion looks depending upon what colours you put against your face, whether that be with clothes or makeup! As you can quite clearly see by the pictures above, this shade of brown is doing categorically NOTHING for my skin tone. It has given my yellow tone a green tinge, pointed out all my dark shadows, (including my moustache, we all saw it.) as well as highlighting the wrinkles in my lips. Colour analysis is a very interesting topic I may do a blog post focused on if you guys would like that? Regardless, I don’t think Posh Spice is for me.

An extremely debatable nude, Rose Matter is a cheerful, coral pink which is so perfect for this approaching sunshine season… If we literally EVER get any sun here in not so great Britain.

I completely take responsibility for horrendous application at this point, I had swatched six matte lips and I quite literally forgot the shape of my lips. They look a tad old school, over-lining Kylie Jenner before the fillers – oh well! I adore this shade! A terracotta red-nude.. If that existed, it would be this.

A deep chocolate orange (;)) shade which I liked surprisingly more than I first expected! Autumn in a lip colour no?

Jeffree’s most popular shade aside from Unicorn Blood, and rightly so as it is so gorgeous and unique! It has a hint of purple of which I would usually steer clear, but it’s subtle and muted with a delicious nude wearable-ness to it which I am simply obsessed with!
If I have persuaded you, Buy it HERE, it sells out quite often so when they restock, snap it up whilst you can!

Hope you are all well,

Just Jolie x

  1. All these shades are so delectable! I adore your lip swatches – your lips look amazing in them and work the shades so well. I’m liking the look of Celebrity Skin and Gemini. X
