Product Preach – Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour.

Beauty

My Product Preach series has been my longest standing blog ‘format’ to date. Before my Blog-a-break, I used to bash one of these bad boys out once a week without fail! I would like to return to that, as these were such an easy, enjoyable format; which if I remember, you all used to enjoy too! Well, lets start this ball rolling again shall we? First, with a lip product which is my new ‘go-to’; and that really means something in my book, because I have a shed full (metaphorically) of lip sh**. I was so surprisingly blown away by none other than the Rimmel Stay Matte liquid lip colours.

Product Preach: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream.

Beauty

What is up my young cherubs? Yes, you are all angelic in my book, and there for you deserve the best when it comes to my recommendations. So today, I’m slapping you around the chops with a Product Preach. It is one of the lippy variety – so pucker up!

IMG_0526

I’m normally extremely weary of liquid products which dry to matte, as they tend to be extremely drying, and my lips are twice as unforgiving as other lips when it comes to dryness. However, on the recommendation of my good pal Liv, I tried out this one and was blown away! It is both moisturising in consistency and smooth-looking on the lip, it also feels very weightless once it’s been on for a long period of time. There just doesn’t seem to be a downside to this product!

Inyx

The colour is a deep plum which is drop dead gorgeous and slap bang on trend! It’s also very buildable and the pigmentation is fabulous, so you can look as little or lot vampy (bad grammar but you get my point) as you’d like! It one of those extremely complimentary colours for your teeth. Hang in with me on this, but you must agree sometimes you put a colour on your lips and your eyes don’t admire your lips themselves, but instead think “dayum, my teeth look hella good!”. I believe it is the blue tone of the red, that brings out the white in your teeth, but whatever it is, it’s fabulous!

In terms of durability, I can tell you that after this picture was taken I went out and drank many a drink with my refillable at Nandos, and ate a great deal of chicken; I have never seen such durability! Not many lip products ever stand up to the Nandos test – but this sucker is unbelievable, and passed with flying colours. If I ever wear a bold lip out to eat, by half way through the main the only remainder is a bold line of colour lining my lips in true 90’s tribute, it is definitely not a good look. However, this lip cream simply does not wear, and when it does slightly lose its brightness, it loses it as a whole, which I must admit is 10x more flattering.

And that is that! I would highly recommend picking one of these up, it’s my first delve in to NYX and I am highly impressed! I’d love to know what else you all recommend from NYX in the comments below!

I am off to London tomorrow for a few days for an art trip, so be excited to see what I get up to later in the week! See you then.

Product Preach: Nars LANA Audacious Lipstick.

Beauty

Hi there, glad you could make it, sit down and grab a wee cuppa, kettle’s over there. Yes you guessed it, it’s another Product Preach, this time of the high-end variety. This would be the perfect splurge, or present for someone special; I am of course speaking of the joys that are Nars lipsticks.

IMG_7301

Oh Nars; how you make me swoon. I can firmly say that the packaging in itself fills me with joy; it is so stylish and simple, and the product inside is always just as beautiful. If you are new to Nars, I think a lippy is always a good place to start, their variety of shades isn’t as vast as Mac (then again, Mac is slightly ridiculous) but EVERY shade is worthy and stunning. I have always had a weakness for the humble orange-toned red, and LANA just seemed like perfection for me. My friend’s bought it for me and I’ve never been so thankful – it was quite honestly love at first sight.

Once you have opened the joy that is the magnetised lid (and played with it for a further ten minutes), the application process is just a dream. It is such a smooth consistency and the overall appearance lives right up to expectation. It’s quite right when you’re paying £24 to, quite frankly, expect perfection; but I think it delivers nothing less. It is such a beautiful colour, and despite the fact Summer is rapidly leaving us, I will continue to flaunt this with pride. I’m savouring LANA as it was such a treat but my next wish is for BARBARA, a beautiful nude I believe I would wear daily. I think I’ll be waiting a while for that one, but a girl can dream.

I think my life goal is for Nars to bring out a lipstick called JOLIE, but for now LANA will do me just fine. I urge you to go out and get it if you want something to splurge on – you won’t regret it!

PS. I can’t help but apologise for the lacking quality in my images, my camera has given up on me, resulting in the iPhone coming to the rescue. CALLING UPON ANY ADVICE FOR THE PERFECT VLOGGER/BLOGGER CAMERA – any expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, have a great day!

Top 5 Mac Lipsticks: Spring/Summer Edition.

Beauty

I stay pretty loyal to drug-store products mostly as I just don’t see the point in buying expensive make-up (with some exceptions) when you can get the same quality for half the price. However, one of these exceptions I make is for Mac lipsticks; some people say they are over rated – I don’t like these people.

In some cases I must agree there are outliers in their collection which can either be overly drying or just disappointing colour pay off, but the majority of their lipsticks are great quality and their colour range is just second to none.

As the sky gets lighter and the days get warmer, so do my lip colour choices; here are five carefully selected Mac lipsticks which I love to wear as the leaves turn green.

lipstick edit

Peach Blossom (creme sheen finish) – The adjective that comes to mind when thinking Peach Blossom, is very, very pretty. A ‘your lips but better colour’ with a subtle hint of peachy pink – pretty perfect. Despite the fact I’ve used many creme sheen lipsticks, this is by far the most moisturising and soft feeling of them all. With a lack of TLC, my lips can get the ‘dry as Gandhi’s flip-flop’ look, so this is brilliant for me!

Creme Cup (cream sheen finish) – This is the first Mac lipstick I ever bought and is the perfect basis for a beginners collection as it suits everyone. It’s very simple but very effective as a fool-proof pink nude, and in terms of wearability it is my go to lipstick. It goes with all makeup looks, keeps my lips moisturized and simply keeps me happy.

Pink Pearl Pop (cream sheen finish) – I’ve never been big on pink lips for no good reason to be honest, but I wore them once and got many compliments saying how it suited my colouring so I bought this! I don’t wear it too often as I’m still a bigger fan of oranges, reds, and nudes, but I do love this pretty shade and if you’re a fan of pink this is ‘pink perfect’. It’s basically a more wearable Viva Glam Nicki Minaj shade.

Costa Chic (frost finish) – I received this as a present and didn’t think much of it as unfortunately my pale, pale skin with the frost finish and blue toned pink didn’t do anything for my complexion – until I got a tan. Holy moly does this look nice with a tan.

Morange (amplified finish) – Orange is my favourite colour (if you can’t tell by le blog..), and if you can find a lipstick more orange than Morange, I’d pay good money to see it. When they say amplified, they mean it, but that’s why I love it so much because if you want a bold lip, you go hard or go home my friend’s. If you want a muted version, I’d recommend Saigon Summer, it’s extremely pretty and more versatile.

Poundland Makeup. Really?

Beauty

Poundland may be portrayed as a fairly low class shop, but with the current consumer constantly looking for deals it’s becoming more and more popular. They seem to be clutching this surge in popularity by widening it’s horizons, in the form of makeup. Poundland have sold other makeup brands in the past but have recently made their own brand called Makeup Gallery, and it ain’t half bad! I bought the entire range which sounds obsessive AND expensive but you must remember it’s all only £1.

Face – Gorgeous Flawless Foundation (Nude 3) / Good To Glow Bronze Shimmer

poundland face collage

The picture on the right is the products I usually use on my face on an everyday basis,(my foundation is Rimmel Match Perfection and I use standard bronzing balls from The Body Shop.) the comparison to the Poundland products used in the picture on the left is very clear.

The foundation provides noticeably less coverage which I actually prefer for everyday use, but on occasions and even weekends I think I would personally feel too naked to wear this foundation. If you have problem skin like me it is pretty abysmal at covering spots but on smooth skin it leaves a lovely finish. Foundation for £1 is something I would never normally trust as something you apply directly against your skin is the thing you are most careful about, yet this is a true example that expense doesn’t garuntee a good product, and a bargain doesn’t garuntee a bad one.

The Bronzer disappointed me as an all over / contour bronzer as it is extremely subtle in that area. If you want a sheer sparkle to the cheek this actually achieves a very pretty light bronze and highlight in one, as it contains more sparkle than I thought.

Eyes – Plump Up The Volume mascara / Pro Liquid eyeliner / Kohl Me Beautiful eyeliner

poundland eye collage

I will begin by dismissing the kohl eyeliner, which wasn’t worth buying at all, you can barely tell on the picture that I applied it below my lower lash line as it wouldn’t even stay on my water line. Don’t even experiment; it’s really not worth it.

On the contrary, the liquid eyeliner is in a completely different league to this, creating a strong black line with ease. Although I definately prefer liquid liner in pen form (e.g L’Oreal Super Liner and Soap & Glory Super Cat Liner are my favourites), I didn’t find this too much of a devil to apply and I will be using it in the future.

The star of the show is the Plump Up The Volume mascara (brilliant name, just saying.), which I don’t believe really lives up to it’s name as volume isn’t what it delivered for me. What it did deliver was seperation and length to a first class level. I can see myself putting this on as a first layer, then building up volume with a different mascara such as Big Fake Ultimate by Collection- a personal favourite of mine.

Lips – All About That Pout Colour Moisture Lipstick in Deep Red

poundland lipstick

The lipstick is the star of the show for me. The picture doesn’t quite do justice to the matte finish you can achieve by adding two/three layers. Often a matte lip is also a dry lip, but not in this case. Somehow it feels like a lip balm with the pigment of a lipstick and all for the price of just a pound. The one thing I hate about this product is the packaging as I hate nothing more than a lipstick that can’t be turned right down into it’s stick, but when your only complaint is the functionality of the packaging, the product itself must be rather good.

From my little experiment I can conclude that I will be repurchasing the lipstick (in every colour), the foundation and possibly the mascara if I feel like a splurge. To find three GOOD products for the sum price of £3 is a happy day for everyone so go down to Poundland and try them yourself; you can’t say you can’t afford them.
